Where we go
Captain Nano
Born in San Carlos de Bariloche and a third-generation member of a family deeply rooted in Patagonia, I grew up immersed in the mountains, lakes, and rural life of the region. My family’s history is closely tied to its development: my great-grandfather, a Spanish immigrant and former miner, dedicated himself to clearing mountain trails at a time when travel was only possible on horseback. My grandfather continued that connection to the land as a logger and cattle rancher, an activity my father also pursued. During that time, my grandparents established an inn that operated for many years and which, today, with nearly 100 years of history, still stands. Building on this foundation, I was trained from a young age in farm work, shaping a deep and authentic understanding of the region.
The transition to tourism took place gradually alongside my father and my family, building on traditional activities such as livestock farming and logging. Over time, this evolution led to nature-based experiences, including horseback riding, rafting, and later hunting, thus marking the beginning of my journey in adventure tourism. I have been skiing since the age of three and working as an instructor since sixteen. That early connection to the mountains led me into the backcountry at a young age, where I have since developed over a decade of dedicated experience supported by the proper equipment, training, and technical knowledge.
I have international skiing experience across both North America and Europe. In the United States, I spent five seasons skiing in Colorado and Utah, gaining extensive experience at resorts as well as in backcountry terrain. Earlier in my career, I also completed a season in Austria and Germany, where I developed a strong foundation as a young skier.
My experience in Patagonia encompasses both the Bariloche region and the southern reaches, including skiing on volcanoes in Chile and Argentina, as well as completing numerous traverses across varied terrain and conditions. Over the course of my career, I have developed a strong foundation in multidisciplinary expeditions, integrating backcountry skiing, multi-day mountain travel, horseback treks, kayaking journeys, and trekking across diverse environments. These disciplines have gradually come together into a cohesive approach that connects mountains, lakes, and varied landscapes into fully integrated expedition experiences. Complementing this, my connection to this environment extends to the water: with more than a decade of experience, I serve as captain of my own vessel, incorporating navigation as a central and defining element of these journeys.
I currently lead NHS Expeditions, a project focused on navigation, backcountry skiing, trekking, and exploration in remote environments. Each expedition is designed and executed with a professional, structured approach, integrating logistics, safety, and risk management in line with the demands of complex natural settings. I bring formal training in first aid and avalanche safety, reinforced by years of hands-on mountain experience that have shaped my decision-making and response in real-world conditions. As a Trip Leader, I oversee every stage of the experience, from planning through on-the-ground leadership, guiding groups in environments where sound judgment is essential. I work comfortably with international clients, speaking English and German fluently and Portuguese at a working level. My approach is grounded in delivering authentic, well-managed experiences that are strongly connected to the natural environment.
SLED 2 SHRED
Over the past decade, I have fallen deeply in love with the Andes of Chile and Argentina. What first drew me to South America was a simple idea: skiing during the Northern Hemisphere summer. But what I discovered was something far more meaningful than just extending the ski season. The Andes offer an experience that feels completely different from skiing in North America.
Much of the terrain remains largely unexplored and rarely skied. Vast mountain ranges stretch in every direction, and when you enter the backcountry it often feels as though you are among the first to experience it. That sense of discovery is what makes the Andes so special. Instead of crowded highways, lift lines, and busy resorts, the rhythm of the mountains is slower and more relaxed. The culture surrounding skiing here carries a carefree attitude that reminds me of what skiing felt like when I was growing up, when the sport was simpler and just about having fun skiing.
As I spent more time exploring different regions of the Andes, I began ski touring deeper into the backcountry and discovering new zones. What quickly became clear was just how endless the terrain truly is. Every ridge revealed another basin, another valley, another line waiting to be skied. The only limitation was access.
I kept thinking to myself, “If only I had my snowmobile here.” Eventually, that idea turned into reality. Before long, we had a shipping container filled with sleds headed south. That single decision changed everything. With snowmobiles, we could reach remote areas that would otherwise take days to access, opening up incredible terrain and allowing us to explore parts of the Andes few people ever see.
What started as a simple trip to ski in the summer has become a decade-long journey of exploration. The Andes continue to reveal new landscapes, new lines, and new experiences every season. It is a place that captures the spirit of adventure and reminds us why we fell in love with the mountains in the first place. If any of the reasonates with you, I would love to show you what I have uncovered.
